My pony designs for both Wonka's
My favorite is 2005, both the movie, my design, and Wonka himself. See starryoak.deviantart.com/journ… for why (HUGE BLOCK OF TEXT) and if you don't like the 2005 version, please just leave this alone. I like it and it's a part of my childhood and if it's not your thing, that's ok.
Here's the bit on Wonka's casting for those who just want my opinion on his design in particular:
Wonka. I don't have to link to either of them, you already know what they look like. And I know this opinion isn't going to be popular, because the reasons I don't like 71 Wonka are actually reasons some people do, so yeah. Neither are bad, and trust me when I say this, it is not about Johnny Depp. I don't care about Johnny Depp in the same way that I don't care about Tim Burton. When he works for me, he works for me, and when he doesn't, he doesn't. I feel like both Wonka's are creepy, but while 71 Wonka is greatly cast and certainly looks the part better, the way he plays it kind of kills the entire movie for me for the same reason it makes others like it even more; Gene Wilder's Wonka makes me feel uncomfortable and squeamish. I just get this creepy child molester vibe to him that just makes it kind of uncomfortable to watch. It's not how I personally feel Wonka should be creepy. Wonka's supposed to be this recluse who's shut himself away for years and hasn't talked to a non-oompa loompe in decades, he should be detached and off, like someone with no connection to society would be. 05 Wonka is uncomfortable with people touching him, he has no sense of compassion for either the parents or the kids, and acts like a kid's show host, except without the people acting along with him. He references 60's songs and 80's television and slang and is out of touch with how the world has grown cynical (seen with his interactions with Mike). He's also got a lot of great lines and is very funny and makes me laugh and doesn't make me feel like he's going to be molesting the kids. I'm not saying Gene Wilder is creepy himself (I have no idea, I don't know much about him) but his portrayal really makes me feel icky and it's probably what put me off the first film in the first place.

I have all five contestants sketched up and will be posting as completed.

If you read the book, the 2005 versión is the best (Except for the ending, it was extended).
